Castle Stories, virtual tours, and guided tours of the fortress

The Jülich Citadel looks back on an eventful history. Archaeological investigations in the castle courtyard uncovered historical layers dating back well before the citadel was built. During the extensive excavation, a cross-section was preserved and is now on display in the castle cellar. A film featuring computer-generated animations explains the findings and makes the excavation results easy to understand. In addition, finds from the excavation are being displayed for the first time.
Today, only ruins remain of William V’s Renaissance castle. Only the castle chapel still conveys an impression of the building’s Renaissance-era condition. Through modern computer technology and architectural and art-historical research, it has been possible to digitally reconstruct the original state of Jülich Castle. With 3D glasses, visitors can immerse themselves in the Renaissance era and view individual rooms of the castle in a 360° panorama.
From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., guests can explore the 90,000 m² fortress complex with free admission. This includes guided tours along the ramparts and through the casemates, as well as visits to the Renaissance chapel and the exhibitions in the castle cellar.
The Michaelis family from Sonnenhof Hompesch will provide refreshments, including coffee and cake, hot dogs, and bratwurst on buns.
