The Friends Association was founded in 1992 to mark the reopening of the Jülich Museum. It supports the museum’s work both conceptually and financially, for example by purchasing paintings or applying for funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for restoration programs.
The membership fee for private individuals is €30.

Since 1994, the Friends Association has awarded the Minerva Prize every two years to individuals who have rendered outstanding services to the city and region of Jülich in the fields of culture, science, and business. The Minerva Prize was launched by the then Chairman of the Board of Jülich, Prof. Joachim Treusch. It is named after a small statue of the goddess that was found in the Jülich area.
